I got about 4.5 hours of sleep last night. I guess I shouldn't have stayed awake so late the night before. Work was interesting, but to be honest I find myself missing the luxuries of the office back home. I am not complaining my any means, just realizing how good we have it. I was on a conference call today and the phone I was on looked like it was about 10 years old. I am surprised there was even a speaker phone option. I took some left over dinner (or breakfast) into the office and just assumed that there would be a fridge to put it in. There wasn't one. :( The break room here consists of a couple of computers, a table, and a water station. It’s nothing compared to our coffee pantries in Springfield. Again, I am realizing how much I take everything for granted back home.
Anyways, I continue to be met with smiles here and it is comforting. Tonight at work I witnessed my first office birthday celebration. Everyone gathers in the break room and the happy birthday singing is accompanied by clapping hands. What is interesting here is the fact that the person whose birthday it is, is fed a piece of cake by a fellow co-worker (it sort of reminds me of the way it is done at weddings). After that the whole cake is cut into small pieces and people will take some and smash it in the birthday person’s face. Wild!! Sometimes the people who do the smashing get a face full also. I really wish I was able to take pictures inside the building so I could share them.
Things have been going really good at the office. At the end of the day I was proud of my team, the trainers Vishal and Mansi, and the way things are moving along. We are a little ahead today and I decided to throw some bonus training in. It really is working out quite well. Since I hadn't gotten much sleep the night before, I was looking forward to getting back to the hotel for breakfast and my nice bed.
On the way back from the office I saw my first cow here in India. It was on the side of the road scavenging through some garbage with a couple of stray dogs. A few blocks down I saw a guy pissing on the side of the road. Interesting...
I continue to be blown away by the breakfast spread here. While there are some traditional western dishes, there is also a wide variety of selections. Never before would I have chosen to eat fish or lamb for breakfast. Everything is so good here and I can't pass up trying all of the different varieties. The pictures (courtesy of my friend Allen Wolf) below show the actual spread, although selections vary day by day.
The best pineapple I've ever had!
I haven’t
tried any of these yet…
Such a
variety…
The omelet bar…
Who wants baked beans for breakfast?
These little mini quiches were sooo delicious!
The chutneys are very good. So far, I think the tomato one is the best.
After I was done eating I opted to leave right away instead of staying to chat. My bed and my girlfriend’s voice were calling me...
